County Durham Food Hygiene Scheme
The Food Hygiene rating system is a national scheme opporated by the Government for food businesses.
Following an inspection by authorised officers from the council the food business is awarded five (excellent) to zero (poor) stars and this is an indication of the level of compliance with food safety legislation.
The scoring process is based on the Food Law Code of Practice issued by the Food Standards Agency and the business is assessed against the following criteria.
- The standard of hygiene
- The structural condition
- Confidence in Management
5 stars = Excellent
4 stars = Very Good
3 stars = Good
2 stars = Fair
1 star = Poor
No stars = Major improvement required
